57 pp. 11x8, original brown cloth with gilt title. First Edition.

Texts of the principle documents of the Republic, with a nice association inscription. Inscribed by George Boutwell to William Evarts on front free endpaper: "To the Honorable Wm. Evarts with the best wishes of Geo. S. Boutwell, AP. 26, 1878." William Evarts was a prominent attorney from Boston who, following his successful defense of President Andrew Johnson in his impeachment trial, was named by him Attorney General. Ewarts also served as Secretary of State under President Taft.

Condition:

Minor rubbing to covers; rear free endpaper torn, else fine.
