Description:

One leaf from the 1462 Fust and Schoeffer Bible. 15¾ x 11¾ inches. Printed in double columns, 48 lines. Original hand executed decorative initials in blue and red; headline on both sides added by hand in alternate red and blue letters.

Rare leaf from the 1462 Mainz Bible printed by Fust & Schoeffer, the earliest Bible with a printed date and essentially the earliest Bible leaf obtainable after Gutenberg. Leaf is from the Book of Numbers with the complete text of chapter 17, flanked by text from chapters 16 & 18.
