xvi, [17]-110 pp. Illustrated with 36 plates, including one folding, and an engraved title-page. (4to) 10½x8½, old sheep. Stated Second Edition.

Early 19th-century American penmanship guidebook. Accompanied by two penmanship and calligraphy workbooks, titled "S.B. Doggett 1st Ornamental" and "S.B. Doggett 2nd Ornamental." Each of these is 20 leaves, and contains marvelous examples of calligraphy and design.

Condition:

Volume covers worn, especially spine which has been reglued, joints cracked with repairs; some staining & foxing to contents, folding plate torn, lacking front free endpaper, else good to very good.
