viii, 352 pp. 7x4¾, bound in recent half maroon morocco and marbled boards, spine tooled and lettered in gilt with six ruled compartments, raised bands, new endpapers. First Edition in book form, first issue?

Appears to be the first issue, with internal points: p. 60, line 10, has comma rather than full stop after "her" and p. 265, line 21, has no quotes at beginning of line, etc. The binding issue was on the lower portion of the original cloth spine, of which this a re-bound copy. Still an attractive and handsomely bound first edition copy. One of only two Dickens novels that were not illustrated on their first appearance. Sadleir 689; Smith Vol.I, 11.
