Instructional and historical treatise on Japanese paper making done by various master crafts people, mostly by women. The last page in the book contains a statement that the book was originally not intended for sale. "A considerable number of the pictures are descriptive portraits of paper-making in each district and corresponding sample papers were selected...Each paper has its own character. Nowadays, however, many of these papers are no longer made and people are apt to forget their names" for which the author has "added one hundred kinds of handmade paper at the end of the book as reference" - from author preface.
