The first volume signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt on the half-title page. Includes an autograph letter signed by book dealer Alvin C. Hamer (of Detroit) to Ralph Longmate discussing the process of obtaining this signed volume dated January 28, 1949 and five different photocopied examples of Roosevelt's signature, laid in. The first five volumes of what would eventually be a thirteen volume set.
