Chapter II of the Third Book describes the amusements and entertainments of the Scots, including the Company of Golfers, which warrants a few paragraphs on pp. 276-277, in which are described the game’s history and rules (briefly) and the Company, with a list of medals an a few subscribers. There is also a lengthy and interesting footnote criticizing another book’s section on golf, including the demerits of playing the game at the top of a place called Arthur’s Seat.
