Description:

Illustrated with 195 sheets of copper-engraved views and plans (many with two or more on a sheet), plus 50 copper-engraved maps. (folio) 15¼x9¼, period marbled sheep with early rebacking in calf, red morocco lettering piece.

Fascinating and lengthy series of views of picturesque abbeys, castles, seats of nobility, etc., as stated on the title-page "Calculated equally to please the Polite--entertain the Curious--instruct the Uninformed--and assist the Learned Historian". Rare complete. This copy has a folding plate of a 1648 document (apparently from another work) bound in at the back.

Condition:

Binding worn at edges, hinges cracked, little worming to inside back cover; frontispiece and folding plate with repairs to verso, about 4 other leaves with repaired tears in beginning; mostly mild offsetting and a little browning, heavy offsetting from text on about 12 plates, pale spotting on just a few plates; very good.
