Description:

Signature of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi on a 3¾x4¾" American Export Lines card, with the pictorial logo on the verso.

Pahlavi was the last Shah of Iran, ruling from 1941 until 1979. With Iran's great oil wealth, Mohammad Reza Shah became the pre-eminent leader of the Middle East, and Guardian of the Gulf. On January 16, 1979 he was deposed by conservative Muslims led by the Ayatollah Khomeini, who had returned from French exile to stage a revolution, abolish the monarchy and establish an Islamic Republic.
