151, [1] pp. Illustrated with gravure reproductions from photographs taken by Richard Avedon, throughout. (Folio) 14½x10, original printed white boards and publisher's slipcase. First Edition.
This copy inscribed on half-title: "Dec 2. 1959 / Sincere compliments to Nan Duskin by Robert Trigere / AND t. [Capote (printed)]". Robert Trigere was the brother of Pauline Trigere, who at the time was managing her fashion house in New York. Nan Duskin was a fellow designer. The "t." and flourish after the inscription are possibly in Capote's hand. Classic collaboration of portraiture with the famous photographs taken by Richard Avedon and witty write-ups by Capote. Images include noted celebrities of art, music, film, stage and literature, such as: Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Alfred Hitchcock, John Huston, Arthur Miller, Marilyn Monroe, T.S. Eliot, Somerset Maugham, Ezra Pound, Pablo Picasso, Louis Armstrong, Humphrey Bogart, Isak Dinesen, etc.
