With ownership signature of "Wm. Ingraham Kip, Bishop of California, 1854" at the top of the title-page. Kip was the first Episcopal Bishop of California, arriving in the Golden State in 1854, the year he signed this book. Provenance: From the Library of Alfred Lee Brewer (the first full-time Rector of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in San Mateo, who arrived in California in 1865) and his son Willam Augustus Brewer, a founder of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Erly ink ownership signature of Robert Arber Linton to top of A3 and A4. Lacking A1 (a blank?), first leaf is title, followed by A3, the first page of the dedication to the Earl of Penbroke; and also lacking Iiii6, the final blank.
