Description:
Three Pages, 8vo, on imprinted “Headquarters Armies of the United States” stationery. “Dear Madam, Your letter of the 25th is just received. If I can be instrumental in aiding you in obtaining a situation as teacher in some seminary it will offer me great pleasure. Having known your father from my infancy and knowing him as a lawyer of ability, and of a higher order of education than is generally attained, even by persons of his profession, I know that he could not have failed to have given all his children and education to qualify them for the position you now seek. Your letter will satisfy any one who chooses to examine them for your qualifications and I…my testimony that from your acquaintance that I believe you will be able to give the greatest satisfaction to all concerned should you obtain a place as teacher in one of the finest seminaries of the country. Yours truly, U.S. Grant – Lt. Gen’l.”
