Profusely illustrated from paintings, drawings, engravings, etc. including 8 printed color plates. 8-3/8x5¾, original decorative green cloth, front covers and spines stamped with gilt, dark green, and red floral designs, lettered in gilt, top edges gilt. First Edition. A well illustrated set with various masterpieces in art, chiefly from the western world, and includes hand-colored lithographs representing the changing fashion from 1790 to 1878. Volume I covers the years 1790-1817, Volume II covers 1818-1842, Volume III covers 1843-1878.
