Title:
Midnight and Noonday, or Dark Deeds Unraveled. Giving Twenty Years Experience on the Frontier; also the Murder of Pat. Hennesey [sic], and the Hanging of Tom Smith, at Ryland's Ford, and Facts Concerning the Talbert Raid on Caldwell. Also the Death Dealing Career of McCarty and Incidents Happening in and Around Caldwell, Kansas, from 1871 until 1890

Author:
Freeman, G[eorge]. D.

Place:
Caldwell, KS

Publisher:
G.D. Freeman

Date:
1890

Description:
405 pp. Illustrated with 4 wood-engraved plates including the frontispiece. 7½x5, original cloth-backed printed boards. First Edition. "Exceeding rare," according to Ramon Adams, so rare that "some collectors think that the 1892 edition was the only one published. This book contains much material on the gunmen and their gun battle in Caldwell, and tells of the Medicine Lodge bank robbery by Henry Brown and Ben Wheeler." Howes calls for 16 plates, Adams only for the frontispiece, but Graff notes 4 plates, as has this copy. There was some variance in the issue. Also, it is misbound by publisher, lacking pp. 273-288 with duplicate pp. 321-336 and a duplicate plate. Adams Herd 843; Six-guns 763; Graff 1411; Howes F353; Rader 1472.
