ix, 314, [2] + [4] ad pp. Frontispiece and plates from photographs by the author. 8vo. Light green cloth decorated in light blue and white on the front cover, lettered in gilt. First Edition. Inscribed and signed by Charles J[esse] Jones ("Buffalo" Jones), (1844-1919), the subject of this semi-fictional work, on the front free endpaper, and underneath the inscription, signed by Zane Grey. The inscription reads "With Compliments of `The Last of the Plainsmen,' C.J. Jones." Also, signed by six members who attended the Camp Fire Club-Pioneer Dinner in December 4, 1909 at the Astor Hotel in New York City where a farewell tribute was held for C. J. "Buffalo" Jones's departure for an African safari. It was on this safari that Jones lassoed, captured and photogrpahed all types of wild animals, receiving much publicity and earning wide acclaim and recognition. The book "Roping Lions in Africa" by Guy H. Scull recounts this adventurous undertaking.
