Photographs printed directly on sensitized paper which is bound in full morocco, most with ink captions in margins, a few with captions in the negative instead. 23 are in color. 27.5x34.5 cm. (10¾x13½").

Rare and important photographic record published in undoubtedly a very small number by the Cardinel-Vincent Company, official photographers of the P.P.I.E. (their imprint on the inside of the front covers), this copy with name of Jas. Rolph Jr., Mayor, in gilt on the lower right corner of the second volume, with the name for some reason eradicated on the first volume. The gilt title on each reads "Panama Pacific International Exposition, San Francisco 1915." The first volume begins with a photograph of the "Meeting of Citizens to subscribe stock for Panama Pacific International Exposition. 6/17/10," with ink copyright notice of Gabriel Moulin. The assembly is in a large hall. This is followed by a photograph of the Original Subscription List; the site chosen for the P.P.I.E.; the "Site, Start of Dredger, First physical work on exposition grounds, 3/20/12"; the auction of the stock in the exposition; groundbreaking at the site; various luncheons and banquets held by and for visiting delegations; the dedications of the various buildings; the crowds at opening day; racecar driving with Eddie Rickenbacker and Barney Oldfield; and much more. The second volume focuses in large part on the Palace of Fine Arts, now the sole surviving building of the marvelous exposition on the original grounds. The crumbling wood and plaster structure was rebuilt in 1965 in durable concrete.
