The opening salvo in the famed "Dixon-Meares Controversy," being the first of a trilogy of rare publications concerning the difference of opinion between George Dixon and John Meares (the other two being: John Meares, “An Answer to Mr. George Dixon…,” 1791; and George Dixon, “Further Remarks on the Voyage of John Meares…,” 1791), referred to by modern historians as the “Dixon-Meares controversy.” In this work, Dixon scrutinizes Meares’ geographical work in the Pacific Northwest and points out inconsistencies in his statements.
