Very Rare Signed portrait of Albert Einstein, eyes closed in meditation, with large pencil signature "A. Einstein 1929" beneath the image, and also signed by the artist in lower right, "Boris Georgiev, Berlin V 1929." An unusual depiction of Einstein by the noted Bulgarian artist-philosopher. Einstein admired Georgiev's artwork and mind - they shared philosophical dialogue together, and Einstein helped organize a show of the artist's work in Berlin. Einstein is said to have sat for Georgiev in January 1929, when the artists made several portraits (including one in which Einstein's eyes flash lightning); this lithograph appears to have been shortly afterward. On seeing this portrait, Einstein is said to have written to Georgiev: "Your art made me feel in those orbits where, far from earthly hardship and suffering, the soul finds peace." This is the largest signed image of Einstein that we have ever encountered.
