1947 Masters Tournament Scrapbook issued to Denny Shute - with Autograph Letter signed from Shute

Shute, Denny

15 leaves. Illustrated with 20 original photographs glued to the pages. 33x29 cm (13x11 ½"), maroon leather covers bound with maroon string, lettered and decorated in gilt, with August National Golf Club logo and Denny Shute's name on front cover. Lot also includes an autograph letter signed by Denny Shute, dated June 28, 1950. The letter, addressed to Dr. Smith, is regarding the scrapbook, as he shipped it to him to help him re-mount the photographs (which Dr. Smith apparently did- as the photos are all well-mounted within). Written on Portage Country Club stationery.

A magnificent Masters Tournament item, with 20 original photographs, issued in a scrapbook, and given as a gift to the players and those who assisted in conducting the tournament. This copy was gifted to Denny Shute (1904-1974), with his name in gilt on the cover. He competed in many Masters Tournaments and his highest finish was 5th place in 1935. With a laid in newspaper clipping featuring a group portrait of the competitors in the 1947 Masters.

Lot Amendments

Lightly rubbed at spine edges, front hinge neatly restored; near fine.
