Original printed and hand-written membership certificate to Col. Mackay, "being subscription to Kintyre Golf Club for year ending 31 March 1886." The certificate is signed by the Honorary Treasurer, A.H. Duncan. 8.5x14 cm (3½x5½"). On verso is a short hand-written receipt notation, dated April 3, 1886.

There were over 40 members within the first year of opening of the Kintyre Golf Club, which officially opened in March of 1876. This membership certificate is dated 10 years after opening, when the name had not yet been changed from Kintyre Golf Club to Machrihanish Golf Club, as it ultimately remained. The certificate is awarded to Col. Mackay (who later becomes a Lieutenant Colonel, as evidenced by his membership certificate for Machrihanish Golf Club dated 1889, which is also offered in this auction). Sometime between 1886 and 1889, the name of the golf club was changed. This is a scarce piece of ephemera produced during the brief time the club was called Kintyre.
