Typed and handwritten, some on plain paper, others on interesting and attractive letterheads.

Interesting letters having to do with the cattle industry, rustling, diseases, legislation affecting ranchers, labor unrest among cowboys, and more. On March 14, 1886, Pierce, Hardy & Warner write "We herewith hand you clipping from a cowboy letter in the last issue of the Northwestern Live Stock Journal... The cowboys in northern New Mexico have banded themselves together for protective and defensive measures, and the feeling of dissatisfaction with the present order of things with respect to their relation to employers seems to be only waiting for an agitator... We believe the Knights of Labor, who have an order in Raton, N.M., have induced the cowboys there to take the step they have and are only waiting to make the influence of their order felt throughout the range country..." On December 7th, 1886, Harry Oelrichs of the Anglo American Cattle Company writes, "...I think that with a clever detective I can prove that one or more grangers who don't own cattle have been killing beef, and have a pretty accurate idea of where the hides can be found..."
