Lithographed map, hand-colored. 95x126 cm (37½x49½"), laid down on early linen backing, folding into marbled boards covers backed with cloth.

Third edition of this Civil War era map with exceptional detail, especially notable for the countless railway lines and stations included. The map extends west to 103º, including much of Texas, present Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. Warren Heckrotte thinks that though dated 1864, the map "was probably published in 1865 after the Civil War for there is no reference to war such as is found on second edition..." There is a printed notation on the map that "Any one finding an error in this Map will be entitled to a copy, gratis, by writing to the Publisher."
