Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "Dear Carl & Lora, How do you like 'A Piece of Steak'? Please do tell me. Jack London, Glen Ellen, Calif., Feb. 16, 1911." Carlton Bierce was Ambrose Bierce nephew - he and his wife Lora were members of Jack London's circle. In the inscription, London has re-applied he "eak" in Steak - apparently in his haste (or perhaps state of inebriation?) he had made an error the first go around. The book was published in January 1911, deposited on January 26th, making this an early presentation copy.
