Engraved map, hand-colored in outline. 48x60 cm (19¾x23½").

Third state of this detailed and significant map, which extends south to the Arkansas River and in California to a little south of Monterey. Wheat notes it as the "famous map of which 1838 HOOD is a copy. It contains the latest from the fur traders." In the Oregon Territory, joint occupancy is implied, with the western and northern borders not delineated. Warren Heckrotte notes that "The mapping of California derives from the Hudsons Bay Co. and represents an advance, though with errors."
