Important compilation of sailing directions by the premier oceanographer of his day. The interesting plates and maps show winds and currents, myriad denizens of the seas, etc.; the 12 maps at end are of the Atlantic Ocean, north and south, during each of the 12 months. With an autograph letter signed by Maury, to a Miss Lucy F.M. Page, 22 April 1859, presenting the book, affixed to front flyleaf (it is darkened). The second volume of this work was published in 1859. Bookplate of Daniel Delehanty and Vincent Stuart Jr.
