Six color collotypes after watercolors by George Grosz. 52.5x39 cm (20¾x15¼") sheet size, loose in printed paper folder and monk's cloth portfolio. One of 150 sets.

Each plate signed in pencil by the artist. Artworks depicting O. Henry's New York. Originally issued in 1935, this copy one of 17 unissued sets discovered in 1975 and offered to Limited Editions Club members, letter from the publisher included. George Grosz (German 1893-1959) is associated with the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) movement, along with Otto Dix and Max Beckmann. He was a member of the Berlin Dada group as well as associated with the German Expressionists. As a soldier in World War I Grosz witness the devastation of war which caused his art to comment on social criticism and the decay of German society as he saw it. He was a leftist activist contributing drawings in satirical and critical periodicals. His art was labeled as degenerate by the Nazis and displayed in the famous The “Degenerate Art Exhibition” in Munich 1937 which was designed to foster outrage with the public against un-German, Jewish and Communist art. He immigrated to the US in 1933, and became a naturalized citizen in 1938.

We have a full service shipping department to ensure proper packing and safe delivery of purchases at reasonable cost. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
