246 pp. Illustrated by F.I. Wetherbee of Chicago. Frontispiece of Sutter's Fort in 1847 with tissue-guard. (8vo) 19.3x13.3 cm ( 7½x5¼"), green cloth, front cover lettered in red over diagonal gilt band, spine lettered in gilt. First Edition.

Following his father, who had journeyed to California in 1849, Farish traveled to San Francisco in 1852 via the Isthmus, finding employment as a bookseller. His narrative includes accounts of many prominent Californians during the 1850's, and also his later mining adventures in Plumas and Butte counties, where his brother discovered a 108-pound nugget of gold. We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
