From the library of  Erwin Chargaff and signed by him on the front free endpaper.  A very interesting association copy, linking one of the first molecular biologists, the individual who first noted the one-to-one ratio of bases adenine to thymine and guanine to cytosine in DNA, with a volume on mitosis, the basic process of cell division and reproduction. Erwin Chargaff was an Austro-Hungarian biochemist who immigrated to the United States during the Nazi era and was a professor of biochemistry at Columbia University medical school. Through careful experimentation, Chargaff discovered two rules that helped lead to the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA.
