[iii]-xxiv, 365 + [1] ad pp. (8vo) 21.5x13.5 cm (8½x5¼") modern half straight-grain morocco & cloth, spine tooled & lettered in gilt, marbled page edges. First Edition in English.

The rare true first edition of Thomas Taylor's English translation not to be confused with the more common reprint published by Dobbs in London the same year. Iamblichus (c. 245-c.325 AD), comes down to us as the chief representative of Syrian Neoplatonism. He studied under Plotinus' pupil Porphyry, only to split with him over the practice of theurgy, with the present volume being in large part a response to the division.
