Printed by the Kama Shastra Society for Private Subscribers only.  First edition, bound in full vellum, of this work published in 1887; one of the three most celebrated works in Persian literature. 

Fully bound in vellum with a narrow blind-embossed ruled border on both boards, gilt lettering on the spine and the date of 1887 in gilt at the tail of the spine, ruled borders at the head and tail, on the front pastedown is a small armorial oval-shaped bookplate with the name Alexander McGrigor, below the name an escutcheon showing a crown surrounded by stars in the upper half, the lower half has a pine tree at an angle intersected with a broadsword; 12 mo in size (approximately 7.5" tall), pagination:  (i)-vi, (1)-183, Errata page (184).

Lot Amendments

Near fine overall, with a strong, square text block, front hinge a bit tender but holding well, back hinge solid, corners very gently bumped and with no rubbing, the interior is lightly toned but very clean, the only prior owner marking is the above-mentioned bookplate; the vellum binding is strong and the gilt lettering on the spine bright, it has some slight bowing and scattered light soiling.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
