First edition. 4to. xiv, 526pp. Black cloth spine, gilt; brown cloth sides with gilt title on upper board. Illustrated throughout. Index. In Publisher's slipcase.

Warmly inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, 'For Mark Phillips, with best wishes. Ron De Waal. 4-16-75.' Laid in is a typed letter, dated May 13, 1975, signed by Edwin Blum, & addressed to Mr. Phillips as the Chairman of the Sherlock Holmes Society in Encino, California. In it, Mr. Blum confirms a meeting of the society and refers to the past artistry of 'Rathbone, Bruce and that great innovator, A. Conan Doyle'. Blum was a screenwriter associated with many movies and TV shows, but notably in this context he was the screenwriter for 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' with Rathbone and Bruce.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
