The first directory of Nevada and the first major descriptive and historical account of the territory. Issued less than three years after the discovery of the Comstock Lode, listing more than 4000 miners, laborers, etc. Several sections of advertisements at the front, rear, and within, many with woodcut embellishments. On page 69, in the pages for Carson City, is a listing for Samuel Clemens [Mark Twain] as "Assistant Secretary Nevada Territory." Also listed is Clemens' brother Orion, Secretary Nevada Territory. Greenwood 1657; Howes K65; Sabin 37309; Flake 4566; Quebedeaux 144. Only the second copy to appear at auction since the Streeter sale in 1968, the other copy, rebound and lacking several leaves, sold in 1999  and again in 2010.

Lot Amendments

Leather spine a bit dry, splitting, and with old glue repair, light wear to boards, previous owners name and label on front pastedown and at head of index page; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
