Superbly illustrated 18th century folio Dutch Bible, with spectacular hand-colored engraved plates, some double-page, depicting in graphic and at times lurid detail the scenes and events of the Old and New Testaments. Bernard Picart, the most notable of the three important artists that provided the illustrations, is renowned today for his masterful depictions of religious ceremonies and iconography from around the globe, and is described by John Harthan, in The History of the Illustrated Book, as "a man of vast industry, training many engravers and illustrating books of all kinds."
