Although the actual court case involved British-born California pioneer merchant Henry Dalton, who arrived in the early 1840s, acquiring the Rancho Azusa in Los Angeles County, the ramifications were more widespread, and the present volume covers a broad range of California land law. The contents are: "Report on the laws and regulations relative to grants or sales of public lands in California, by H.W.
