4-page promotional brochure in the form of a lettersheet, with p.1 for the letter (unused), pp. 2-3 with text, p.4 as "Map of the Town of San Fernando and of the Maclay San Fernando Ranch. 28.7x21.5 cm. (11¼x8½").

In 1874, Charles Maclay bought 56,000 acres of the Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando land grant including the northern half of the San Fernando Valley north of the city of Los Angeles, and proceeded to subdivide it. This promotional piece is very rare - OCLC/WorldCat lists only three copies, at Yale, the Huntington, and UCLA. Added to the lot is a fine example of the Pacific Railroad Survey lithograph, "Mission and Plain of San Fernando."
