[ii], 188, [1] pp. Pictorial wood-engraved general title, wood-engraved title vignette and 37 full-page wood-engraved illustrations by Robert Hart after "C.J." Illustrations colored by hand. (16mo) 10x13.5 cm (4x5¼") original blindstamped green cloth with gilt vignette at center of front cover, modern rebacking with original spine cloth laid down, hinges reinforced. First combined edition.

The three pieces were first published separately in 1837, 1840, and 1841 respectively, here combined for the first time, with continuous pagination. The first verse edition, adapted from the prose of Robert Southey, perhaps from an earlier folk tale. Osborne 607.

Lot Amendments

Corners rubbed, spine leaning, 1861 inscription on endpaper; a bit of soiling within, a few leaves with light edge wear; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
