466, [8] pp. With engraved frontispiece and numerous other engraved plates. Printed in double columns. (Folio) 36x23 cm (14x9½"), period full calf, likely rebacked with original spine strip laid down, raised spine bands, morocco spine label lettered in gilt.

Profusely illustrated book on Christian martyrs throughout the ages - from the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ to 18th-century Protestant Martyrs. One of several variations upon this work published under Cooke's imprint, which, according to ESTC, was first published in parts in beginning in 1765, and from that format, reissued in book form with cancel titles. 

Lot Amendments

Some wear to binding with rubbing to extremities, light bumps to bottom corners and head of spine; interior solid with light toning and a bit of light foxing, occasional small chip or closed tear to page edge or corner; very good.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
