2 volumes. [32], 264, [1]; [24], 191, [13] pp. Entirely engraved, both text and illustration, and liberally supplied with initials, head- and tailpieces and vignettes. (8vo) 22.8x13.5 cm (9x5¼"), 18th/early 19th century full red straight-grain morocco with gilt-tooled borders and spines, raised bands, morocco lettering pieces, gilt inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. First Pine Edition.

Beautifully bound set of Pine's exquisitely engraved Horace. This is the second state, with 'Potest' in left medallion on p. 108, Vol. 2 (changed from the Post Est of the first state). Brunet says that the book is remarkable for the elegance of its decoration and insists that it is more correct than generally recognized. Brunet III, 320; Blumenthal, Art of the Printed Book 72; Ray, England p. 3; Rothschild 1548. Bookplates of Thomas Roper. Each with notation on front flyleaf, "From my father 1860."

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
