[28], 415, [1] pp. Added engraved title-page by William Marshall, depicting the author surrounded by vignettes of Herodotus, Livy, Thucydides, & Tacitus. (4to) 18x13.5 cm (7¼x5½"), modern full brown morocco, spine lettered in gilt, raised bands, all edges gilt. Second Edition.

This second Edition is more than doubled from its original version as The Schollers Medley, published in 1614. Braithwaite, who is today best known for his doggerel poem Drunken Barnaby's Four Journeys..., here anatomizes the various sorts of histories--including fictional or 'poetical' ones--and elaborates on their moral and educational qualities.

Upper margins of first four leaves reinforced with old paper, sidenotes of leaves B1 & B3 slightly shaved; a bit of foxing within, but overall a clean, fresh copy.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail.  We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
