(Folio), 52x35 cm (20½x14"),  period three quarter green morocco and marbled boards, gilt stamped spine, marbled endpapers. Second Edition.

Exceedingly rare (especially with supplement) volume of partly hand colored medical plates with lettered, movable parts and accompanying pages of text description. The initial volume has 8 plates, and is followed by a supplement containing 9 additional plates. The volume on the hernia is bound at the rear, containing an additional 3 plates, as well as a title and dedication page, and 16 additional pages of text. The 1834 volume on the hernia is a first edition. Tuson was a protégé of Astley Cooper and succeeded Charles Bell as surgeon at the Middlesex Hospital. His Myology was the largest and most complex nineteenth century medical book using the technique of lift-up flaps to simulate dissection. The printing of the lithographs was done by Hullmandel, pioneers in the field of lithography in England.With the bookplate of the Hartford Hospital Medical Library, dated 1874.
