Le Grand Circuit des Capitales

Le Bruel, Marcel

Chocolat Menier/Agence française de propagande

48 pp. With color illustrated endpapers, other illustrations, large color folding map. (4to), original cloth-backed boards, front board illustrated in color. First Edition.

Charming illustrated book/game which involved collecting laminated vignettes to fill out blank spaces in the book, obtained by purchasing a variety of Menier chocolate products. This is a scarce copy in which none of the vignettes have been inserted. Includes a wonderful color folding pictorial map of Europe and Asia, made for Chotolat Menier, featuring images of indigenous people, plants, animals, and buildings. A red line of travel connects important cities throughout the map. The Menier Chocolate Company was founded in 1816 as a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Paris, France, at a time when chocolate was used as a medicinal product and was only one part of the overall business. The Menier Chocolate Company exhibited at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, where they were billed as the leading chocolate makers in the world. A nice copy, scarce with map.

Lot Amendments

Light wear and soiling to boards; light toning to interior, light toning and some creasing to map; very good.
