8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 78pp. Red cloth boards with gilt on spine; original tan wrappers.Two two-page chromo-lithographs. Ex-library of the Library of Congress with a sticker on the spine, bookplate with pencil markings on front pastedown, and a blind stamp on the title page. First Edition.

Lucien Merlet was a French archivist. The Hurons and Abnaki or Abnaquis learned of the church Notre-Dame de Chartres from French missionaries and showed devotion to it by sending porcelain bead belts. Merlet follows this unusual story with letters from the Jesuits and tribes and documents on the supposed tunic of the Virgin Mary kept at Notre-Dame de Chartres. Last recorded auction in 1965.

Lot Amendments
Cloth boards have soiling, sunning on spine, and rubbed and bumped corners. Wrappers have light soil and a few pencil marks. Blue tint to text pages, clean interior.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
