Charley and I are at work on the ditch and building a house on the claims with are situated about 4 miles from Mount Pleasant or, more commonly called Grizzly Flat. Our ditch is about three miles long, it is nearly completed, we shall have water to work with the year round it has been quite an expensive operation (about $4,000) though we are quite confident a profitable one. There are nine of us in company the most of them persevering working miners we have been offered $1000 per share...There is no preaching at Mount Pleasant at present and we have no sanctuary privileges but I thank God we still may read his Holy Word and pour out our desires in prayer to him with the blessed assurance that He will hear and deliver from the snares and limitations to which we are exposed..."
