Early manual for agents of the venerable San Francisco insurance company founded in 1863. The manual was published six months before the company successfully paid all of its claims from the Great Chicago Fire – about a half million dollars' worth – within 60 days, nearly wiping out all of the company's capital. Ink notation A.M. Petaluma at top of front wrapper. There are numerous handwritten calculations within the book. No copies of the manual are listed in OCLC/WorldCat.

Lot Amendments

Some corner and edge wear to wrappers, the whole with vertical crease; overall very good.
