390 pp. (8vo) 19x11 cm (7½x4½"), bound in modern three quarter brown cloth and marbled boards, gilt spine, marbled endpapers. First American Edition. 

Scarce first American edition, after the first edition published under this title in London in 1714. An important work on the Indians of North Carolina, and the first history of the Carolinas. Lawson, a government land surveyor, was burned at the stake by the Tuscarora Indians in 1711. Includes translations of English to Tuscarora-ese. Sabin 39452. Howes L155, Field 899.
