Title:
The Ten Little Mulligan Guards
Author:
Braham, David and Edward Harrigan
Place:
New York
Publisher:
McLoughlin Brothers
Date:
[1874]
Description:

12 leaves, 23 x 28 cm.  Illustrated with colorful chromolithographs. Original pictorial paper wrappers.

Can be read as a story in verse or used for playing "The game of the ten little Mulligans," instructions for which are given on leaf [12]. As ten boys march along, they are lost one by one until none are left. The word "nigger" is prominent throughout. NUC pre-1956 attributes this work, probably only by association, to Edward Harrigan. Includes the music to the chorus of the 1873 popular song "The Mulligan Guard" by David Braham. In place of Edward Harrigan's original lyrics are new verses for children, probably commissioned by the publisher.
