2 volumes. xvi, [2], 427; [6], 372, [1] pp. Eight hand-colored plates, nine folding maps and charts, some colored in outline. Complete with half-title in volume two (only, as called for) and directions to the binder. (4to) 27x20 cm( 10½x8"), period calf re-backed, spine with green and orange morocco labels, gilt decorations and lettering, all edges gilt. Second Edition. 

Second edition, preceded by the first of 1801-04, which did not contain the eight plates by Daniell. Barrow was attached to the staff of the Earl of Macartney, one of the governors of the Cape Colony during the first occupation by the British. Barrow accompanied an expedition from Cape Town to Graaff-Reinet, and another to Namaqualand, and gives excellent descriptions of the country traversed, and describes the characteristics, habits, and customs of the various native races. Lot Amendments

Some scuffing and rubbing to boards; some offsetting to the text from the hand-coloring on the maps; one map detached at a fold with detached portion laid in, with closed tear and a few small chips; very good.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
