Front pastedown bears the bookplate of Mrs. J.S. Wadsworth. A prolific writer of many books based on his travels, Olmsted is today best remembered as perhaps the most important landscape architect of the nineteenth century, who, as a member of the firm of Olmstead, Vaux, and Co. designed New York's Central Park, Golden Gate Park, grounds of the University of California at Berkeley, and many other notable public parks and grounds.
