A narrative of the author's involvement, with his 78th Highlanders Brigade, in the Cape Frontier Wars, or Kaffir Wars. Technically this would have been the eighth Kaffir (or Xhosa) War, within a larger conflict that spanned one hundred years of South African history (1779-1879). The Kaffir wars were one of the most prolonged struggles by indigenous peoples against European colonization.
