Description:

Original pen and watercolor artwork by Hugh Lofting used for the cover label of Doctor Dolittle's Post Office, framed under glass. With frame: 9½x6½"; image: 8x5."

The artwork is signed by Lofting in the top left corner. The paper backing of the frame (detached but present) is inscribed by Lofting to screenwriter Albert S. LeVino: "To Albert LeVino with best wishes from Hugh Lofting, July 28 1930."  Also included is a first American edition of the book, inscribed by Lofting along with a drawing of a seal on the front flyleaf: "For Theodore LeVino with kindest regards, Hugh Lofting - June 1930." Wonderful original artwork by Lofting, along with a rare inscribed copy of one of his first editions.

Condition:
General light wear to frame, paper backing detached but present, with some clear tape and chips to edges; artwork not examined outside of frame but appears fine; booke with wear and soiling to cloth, rubbing to extremities, vertical creasing to spine cloth; hinges reinforced with black cloth tape, dampstaining to some page edges; good or better.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS Priority Mail. We do NOT ship USPS Media Mail under any circumstances.For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a minimum $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
